Executive Director Update #14-January 27th, 2023:
We are just about a month away from the Florida DECA Career Development Conference. The conference is at the Lake Buena Vista Hilton across from Disney Springs. This is a great location with a ton of things for the students to do during their “downtime”. There are skybridges to allow the kids to safely cross over to Disney Springs-where there are options for food, shopping, and entertainment. There will be some changes at the conference this year, however we will be keeping some of our classic events such as our Friday Night Karaoke, which is opened to all registered attendees. Continue to use DECA+ to prepare your students. Use the Exam Blueprints to show them the elements that will be emphasized on the State test. There are a plethora of practice tests and role plays on the internet if you search DECA competitive events + the event name. Written Event submissions and judging went very well. I know that the process seems to take forever when you are trying to plan for housing and registration, so we appreciate your patience in letting the process work itself out. Feedback and scores are available through the Written Event registration site to help your students prepare for the next round of competition or improve for their event next year. Thank you all for submitting your registration on time. It makes our job a lot easier when registration is complete early and ready to go-as we make decisions regarding events and resources. The school year is already moving so quickly and the conference will be here before we realize. Make sure to communicate the expectations with your students and do not forget to complete the signed Code of Conduct form for students and advisors. Also, please make sure you understand the tentative Conference Agenda, including the mandatory Advisor meeting. Thank you to all of the Districts for determining their Vice President for Team 66. We had an excellent turnout this year with students who wanted to be considered. While not everyone can be part of Team 66, students can always represent their District and the organization through their activities and will hopefully use those experiences to grow, improving their chances of becoming an officer for Team 67. Information will be going out soon for ICDC, so that you can start completing the paperwork for your field trip. We look forward to seeing you at CDC. -Jamie Benedict, Executive Director
