For many chapters, elections for next year's DECA officers are either getting started or will be started soon. For those interested in taking on the incredible responsibility, being an officer can provide opportunities to tap into your inner leader while building experiences of a lifetime. It's important to realize though the responsibilities that such a position comes with. You will be the direct connection between your chapter members, your advisor(s), and the Florida Chartered Association Officers. It is important that you are up to the challenge.
While an officer, your focus will be on how you can make your chapter better. Many chapters accomplish this by hosting meetings, attending the Florida DECA Leadership Council, and using the Annual Business Plan to create activities that will engage members and earn your chapter recognition at CDC. Always remember that members want to have fun, so by incorporating special activities in your meetings, members will be more engaged and likely to be present. Getting your chapter involved in your local community is also an important aspect of DECA and can be accomplished in many ways. Some chapters reach out to local legislature and ask for a proclamation for their DECA chapter. As an officer, you also want to make sure that members are aware of upcoming and important events and by having a chapter representative attend the Florida DECA Leadership Council (DLC), you can achieve just that. The DLC is a monthly webinar series, hosted by the Team 55 officers, that works to connect chapters and provide access to upcoming event information. If you have questions about how to get involved with the DLC, contact one of your chartered association officers. Our emails are available on the Florida DECA website.
