DECA Dictionary
I remember being a freshman and not understanding terms like “Career Development Conference(CDC)” and “DECA Leadership Council(DLC).” It would be talked about by my advisors and at meetings, but I would just never ask what those terms meant. Of course, now that I am Florida DECA VP, I know the in’s and out’s of almost everything that has to do with DECA. But, other members may not. Watch this video for some terms that may be misunderstood or unknown in the DECA community. ABP- Annual Business Plan; Annually, the Florida DECA Officers create a list of activities that each chapter should complete during the year. Depending on how many activities are completed, chapters are recognized as bronze, silver, or gold at CDC. CDC- Career Development Conference; Many people refer to the state competition/conference as “States.” DLC- DECA Leadership Council; This is a group of people consisting of one leader from each chapter that communicates monthly with one of the State Officers in a video chat. Helping Hands- This is Florida DECA’s collection of donations for a chosen charity in the community. There are two collections with two different charities, one in the fall at ELS, and one in the spring at CDC. ELS- Emerging Leaders Summit; There are two different Emerging Leaders Summit’s for Florida DECA. These include the National DECA ELS in July, and the Florida DECA ELS in October, where the Helping Hands Fall Collection occurs.
