By now, we are all experienced jugglers. On one hand are our extracurriculars, and on the other is our school work. DECA alone can be a handful (pun intended), so it is important that we manage our time. In an effort to avoid dreadful all-nighters and mounting homework, here are a few tips to help you manage your time!
PRIORITIZE Especially on a deadline, you need to prioritize your goals/tasks. By doing so, you can allot yourself more time to do the more important tasks. Prioritizing also means saying no to appealing offers and additional tasks. To avoid overscheduling yourself, it’s imperative you learn to say no and focus on your priorities. After all, a “Jack of all trades, is a master of none.” DON’T GET DISTRACTED In an effort to limit your distractions, you can install browser extensions, such as Waste No Time, which is designed to prevent you from getting distracted on the Internet. This tool allows you to block certain websites, for the time being, while you complete your tasks. Removing your distractions helps you from being tempted to fool around and waste time. The sooner you start, the sooner you get it over with! GET COMFORTABLE- Before you start your tasks, find a place where you can relax and do your work at peace. Preferable, somewhere quiet and comfortable. Although you don’t want to be borderline-sleeping comfortable, you should have a calm walking environment. This goes hand in hand with limiting distractions, because by having a comfortable working space, you focus more on your work rather than your surroundings. HAVE A PLANNER Planning your time is essential in time management. By scheduling your day ahead of time, you can get more errands/assignments done. It also helps to remind you of the tasks you need to do and of deadlines you need to meet. |
