TEAM 60!
Are you interested in leaving Florida DECA better than you found it? Do you strive to represent your fellow members and give back to an amazing organization? If so, Team 60 is a perfect fit! DECA provides its members the opportunity to fulfill leadership positions and make a difference in their states through running for office. With determination and drive, you’ll be able to leave your legacy in DECA. Before you decide to run for office, make sure to review the expectations of each officer position and the responsibility the title entails! From planning ELS, to coordinating Helping Hands, Team 60 officers will be expected to give 110% effort. Now that you know you are ready and want to run for office, I have a few tips from experience of what you should prepare for! After submitting your Team 60 application, you will have to take a multiple choice test centered on the history of Florida DECA. In order to run for office, you must pass the test. So my first tip is to study ! Next, start preparing the platform for your campaign. This should include all of your ideas of how to make Florida DECA better. The more specific the better! Once you know your platform, start campaigning within your district. Keep in mind that you’re not allowed to campaign online, so it must be through word of mouth ! Many candidates choose to visit local chapters to garner extra support. Finally, my last tip is to socialize ! Remember that you are selling your ideas, not your booth. You and your team, should socialize with as many people as possible during CDC, regardless if they are voting delegates. By shaking hands and kissing babies, chapters listen to your ideas and remember you when they are voting. After all, members are looking for a friendly candidate who can not only represent them, but represent DECA as a whole! I wish all candidates the best of luck! DECA Wear Tips!
Proper attire is always important, especially in a professional setting. In fact, one of DECA’s core principle is “Professionally Responsible,” in which members are expected to be dressed poised and with integrity and high standards. First impressions are extremely important, hence a person’s attire may contribute to the development of a relationship. By taking advantage of professional clothing, a person can establish his or her integrity and standards. Helpful tips 1. It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. Especially for competitions, make sure to come to your presentations/role plays with appropriate attire. 2. First impressions determine the outcome of the relationship. Remember that your clothing says a lot about you! 3. Your clothing should compliment your personality, not distract from it. 4. Be bold, but not too bold! A pop of color won’t hurt anyone as long as maintains a professional tone and is not a distraction. Are you interested in leaving Florida DECA better than you found it? Do you strive to

By Marina Cepeda On a beautiful Saturday morning, Hialeah High DECA volunteered at the MDA summer camp, where children with Muscular Dystrophy are invited to have “the best week of the year.” During the week long retreat, these children enjoy themselves and participate in several activities such as basketball and arts and crafts, all funded by the community. Hialeah High DECA members, along with their adviser Mr. D’Amour, help set up the event and volunteered in various booths. Following the morning full of activities and dancing, we finished the day with a luncheon. In one day, I saw firsthand how DECA really is making a difference in the lives of people in our community. Through community service, Hialeah High DECA exemplified DECA’s core value of becoming community oriented! Awestruck by the impact of Hialeah High DECA, I encourage all chapters to reach out to their community and give back! If you haven't realized yet, we are officially in the age of technology! One of the best ways to communicate with your chapter members and among your officer team is to use social media to your advantage. One of the best ways to do this is through social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and Facebook. By using technology and social media, you can advertise chapter functions and stay updated with Florida DECA and DECA Inc. You're chapter social media platforms are your way to stay connected and network!
