CALLING ALL SENIORS!!!!!! This month I’ll be reviewing the Southern Region Vice President’s , Lexy Parsons, guide to scholarships. Lexy offers three important tips to help with the scholarship application process. Start Early Start looking and applying for scholarships early. Take advantage of any breaks you may have to research online. Have some teachers or guidance counselors write general letters of recommendation for you to use for a variety of scholarships and applications. Finally, prepare essays and any other required materials that are being asked for in order to obtain your scholarship. Apply for Everything There are some scholarships that only have a few applicants due to the work required to submit an application. While you may think you don’t have a chance, in reality, you could be one of a few applicants poised to earn a scholarship. Check, Then Double Check After putting in all the work required for a scholarship, it would be a shame to miss out on the award because you missed a signature or missed a deadline. Go over all your applications thoroughly to ensure your time and energy wasn’t wasted. DECA members have the exclusive opportunity to earn $300,000 in scholarship money! Check out the DECA scholarships here: http://www.deca.org/scholarships/ to see if you qualify. Be sure to apply soon because the deadlines are January 17th. In Florida we have our own scholarship for our members, the Ed Fleming Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, found here: http://www.fldeca.org/members.html is available to high school seniors. College is approaching quickly, so try to earn as much as you can to help cover the costs with these tips.
