Hello again Florida DECA!
My name is Laura Valiente and today I am going to talk about chapter officers, since it is closer to August I am going to focus on officer training. When you first meet your team it will not be all DECA. Talking and participating in other activities will bond a team allowing the team to work well together. So does learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The best way to do this is to have them self evaluate themselves and also take a leadership style test. Seeing how they see themselves and adding information from an outside resource that they may not have thought about, will give your team an accurate list of strength and weaknesses for every person on the team. Knowledge is power! You do not need to know everything about DECA but knowing some of the basics will improve your chapter. The values and attributes competence, integrity, teamwork, and innovation. The mission statement, which is the best at explaining DECA in one sentence, DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, marketing, hospitality and management. Lastly, DECA prepares the next generation to be Academically Prepared, Community Oriented, Professionally Responsible, and Experienced Leaders. Defining each person’s roles for the following year will help them have a vision, but still know these jobs will overlap within a team. Another way to set vision within your chapter is to set common goals of values to thrive for throughout the year. Since summer is coming up, now is a great time to plan the following year with your team. Lastly the ABP and DECA Inc. campaigns are meant to make your chapter the best it can be, so use them to your advantage. :) Thank you Florida DECA!
