It is February! That means that chapters are now at full speed preparing for states. As we get closer to states I just want to give you all some tips to bring back the most amount of winners.
1. Have afterschool chapter preparation
If your chapter gets together they can practice role plays and presentations constantly. This is also beneficial for tests because you guys can answer each others questions.
2. Have mandatory test dates
This is where everyone who is going to states has to have finished a test by a certain date. It is more difficult to slack when there are deadlines. I suggest making at least 3 of these dates, however you should make accommodations depending on the dynamics of your chapter.
3. Show motivational videos
For those competitors that haven’t gone to states before, there may be a lack of motivation to prepare as much as they should. Or even past competitors who think they may make it this year because of their experienced last year. These pictures and videos can serve as reminders for what their workings for, and just motivation.
4. Have previous winners speak
Previous winners know what worked for them. Sharing the fun experiences and giving some suggestions for current competitors can aid them in their preparations. You can do this at a chapter meeting or any time you have these competitors together. If any past competitors volunteer to work as an aid for further questions or one-to-one mentoring provides the best learning.
Thank you for participating in competition this year, it gives me a chance to see all your faces at states. Remember to have fun and cheer on your chapter regardless of the outcome!
