Hello Florida DECA! I hope you have all had an amazing first month of schools and had a chance to meet up with your officer team. Hopefully you were able to hold an officer training or bonding for your leadership team. Let’s get ready for the year ahead of us! It’s time to go over the DECA Inc. Advocacy Campaign, I know a lot of people leave this Campaign for last but it requires a lot of reaching out that takes planning. It’s never too early to start advocating!
First let’s go over the 3 school outreach and 3 community outreach included in this campaign. Although this is similar to a lot of campaigns, your chapter’s focus on this is to gain support not promote or increase membership like in other campaigns. They also have to be in February which is CTE month, causing your main focus in these activities probably being about DECA being a CTE organization. The last activity to do for this campaign I heard to be hard to understand, but it is simple. It is 3 public policy makers outreach. My favorite example of this is going out and getting a proclamation the DECA is a CTE organization to your local mayor. Another one is visiting or sending a letter to your school board. Make sure it is about DECA being a CTE organization and the benefits that come with that, also include some specifics about your chapter to make it personal. As you can see, there are 6 activities to this campaign. When executed correctly, they can all run flawlessly and provide great exposure to your chapter. They aren’t that difficult to achieve if you can knock some out with a letter or email. Planning them in advance can help you avoid being overwhelmed and make this campaign simple! I hope this video gave you a clear vision on what to do for this campaign. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask me at laura@fldeca.org. See you soon Florida DECA!
